Author B.A. Paris
Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace.
He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do. Though, you’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult, because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart.
Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows.
Sometimes, the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.
What did I think?
The hype I’ve seen on social media for ‘Behind Closed Doors’ has been absolutely insane which is one of the reasons why I pushed this straight to the top of my TBR list. The second I sat down to start reading it I knew I was in for an interesting and thrilling read.
This is a psychological thriller like no other. The emotions that B.A Paris manages to evoke within you is incredible. One minute I was close to tears, the next I was on the edge of my seat followed by getting really frustrated and angry! It takes a talented author to be able to make you get so involved within the book and to feel the same feelings that the characters are feeling.
I think that Paris has written a very clever, yet very disturbing story. I also found that it is an incredibly rare read, by that I mean that Paris has told a story of mental abuse and not necessarily physical. Mental domestic abuse is often forgotten about as it’s not necessarily visible to others but it is just as serious as other types of domestic abuse yet not as commonly written about. It takes a strong writer to go about this is an effective yet sensitive way, yet Paris has succeeded!
Now, from all of the above you would assume that I’m going to be giving a five heart review, right? Wrong! Unfortunately it’s only getting four hearts and I really can’t put my finger on why! It just seemed to be lacking something, what it was lacking I really don’t know but it just didn’t seem complete.
My Rating? ♥♥♥♥
Will you be adding this to your TBR pile?
