Introducing loveable dog detective Monty – the must-have book this Summer!
You might think that dogs can’t understand us…but you’d be wrong.
Apart from an obsession with cheese, Monty is a perfectly rational animal. So when his beloved master is stabbed to death, Monty decides to use his formidable nose to track the killer down.
Luckily he manages to find a home with Rose Sidebottom, the young policewoman who’s investigating the case. But with her colleagues turning against her, and the wrong man collared, she’s going to need a little help…
What did I think?
I really loved the concept of this book but was quite disappointed when I was reading it. Louisa Bennet really had the potential to make ‘Monty and Me’ a loveable pet-detective book but unfortunately for me it didn’t quite live up to my expectations.
The storyline was fantastic and it kept me wanting more. Although it may seem very ‘gimmicky’, its definitely a different pet-detective book. There are laugh-out-loud moments as well as tear-jerking moments too…Bennet really has given thought and depth to this book.
For me the part that made this book get a mediocre rating was because it seemed as if Bennet hasn’t quite found her writing style. Reading the book it would appear to me that it would appeal to teenagers/young adults but then at the same time there is swearing within the book which makes me think that it should be for older audiences. With that being said, it wouldn’t put me off reading any of her future publications because I did enjoy the story-line behind ‘Monty and Me’. Bennet’s writing style just needs a little bit more consistency in her writing style for me to give higher ratings which I’m sure will come with more published novels.
I wouldn’t rush to read ‘Monty and Me’ again but I would recommend you read it as Bennet has created a brilliant pet-detective novel which keeps you wanting more.
My Rating? ♥♥♥
Will you be adding this to your TBR pile?
