Can the best thing happen at the worst time?
Her dad went crazy. Her mom left town. She has bills to pay and a little sister to look after. Now is not the time for level-headed seventeen-year-old Lucille to fall in love. But love—messy, inconvenient love—is what she’s about to experience when she falls for Digby Jones, her best friend’s brother.
What did I think?
I really, really loved this book, so much so that I finished it in one sitting. I was really impressed with the storyline for a Young Adult book as it kept me hooked and wanting to find out more. I am impressed with the way Estelle Laure wrote ‘This Raging Light’, and for her very first novel I think she has made herself a difficult challenge to better herself in her future novels.
Laure has given so much thought in to the story of Lucille and I feel that this would appeal to a huge range of the YA audience. For me, I have taken that ‘This Raging Light’ is trying to show that your teenage worries that you think are the be-all or end-all of your life are really quite trivial in comparison to what some teenagers out there are genuinely struggling with on a day to day basis. Laure has left the book quite open ended, so I hope there is a follow-on book as I think too many questions have been left unanswered.
This is a book that I would genuinely be excited to see turned in to a film and I am incredibly excited to read future novels from Estelle Laure and I will definitely be first in line to buy them! Well done!
